Puja room is the most sacred part of the house. It is the place where you worship God for peace and prosperity. Construction or placement of the puja room brings positive energy in your home.
It is important to follow vastu guidelines to have an ideal puja room. Here are a few tips for designing puja room as per vastu.
North-east is considered the ideal location for puja room. You can opt for east or north direction also. But all other directions should be avoided.
Puja room should always be on the ground floor of your home.
You should not have puja space inside the bedroom. However, if it is in the bedroom, it should be in the north-east corner of the room. Never point your legs toward the puja corner.
There should not be a toilet below, above or next to the puja room as the negative energies from toilet spoils the atmosphere of puja room.
The puja room should not be located next to the kitchen or under the staircase.
The doors of the puja room should have double shutters. The doors should be in a north or east direction.
The roof of the puja room should be dome or pyramid shaped. This facilitates smooth flow of energy and assists in meditation.
The idols should be placed in east, west or north-east direction. It should never face north.
The idols should never face each other. There should be one inch distance between wall and idols. There should not be any broken idol or picture in the puja room.
The lamp should always be placed in front of the God.
There should be a threshold at the entrance of puja room.
The colour of the puja room should be white
, light blue or light yellow. The floor should be of white or off-white marble.
The vessels used in puja room should be made of copper.
Avoid keeping images or pictures of your dead ancestors in the puja room.
The puja room should not be used for any other purpose like storing, sleeping or for concealing valuables and money.
You should always keep puja room clean and tidy. The room should always have sufficient light.
