Childproof locks are very necessary before a newborn comes to the home. Following are some of the measures to be taken to childproof your home.
  • Use protective coverings in all electric outlets in order to prevent child from sticking their finger or any other objects in an outlet.
  • Store all household chemicals out of reach from children’s way by using shelves, cabinet locks, or childproof caps.
  • Store all medicine out of children’s reach by using childproof caps.
  • All cupboards and airtight containers, including refrigerators, chests or coolers should be installed with safety latches, where a child could become trapped and suffocate.
  • Store knives, sharp objects and heavy pans out of child’s reach by using safety latches on cupboards within child’s reach.
  • Every room and kitchen should be installed with smoke detectors.
  • To prevent the kid from falling out of windows always use window guards, window stops or safety netting which can be removed at the time of emergency exit.

  • Remote controls, CDs and Videos should be kept out of reach from children.
  • Breakable items such as table lamps, plates out of reach from children.
  • Always dispose off broken or dangerous toys that may cause injury to the child.
  • Balloons and plastic bags should be kept away from children as it may cause suffocations.
  • Always protect children from ponds, wells kiddy pools and deep puddles as children can drown in 2 inches of water also.
  • Always install a fence with locking gate around the swimming pool.
The above-mentioned safety devices are available at most of the hardware stores and baby stores which will be helpful to keep kids away from unwanted areas to some extent.
